About Rick

I am Rick Harvey – a hobby photographer living in Invercargill,in the deep south of New Zealand.

I regard myself as an opportunist photographer – someone who tries to make the ordinary things I see around me appear a  little less ordinary – and while it is always nice to have others appreciate the images I produce, my primary goal is to take photographs that make me happy.

And if it's not a camera in my hand, it could well be a glass of wine - New Zealand wine of course - maybe a Marlborough Suuvignon Blanc, or a delicisious Otago red.

To quote American photographer David Beckstead:

I believe that every time I press the shutter, I create for myself.

My Gear

Digital gear:

My primary camera is a Nikon D5100 which I use with two standard kit lenses - a Nikkor DX 18-55mm zoom and a Nikkor DX 55-200mm zoom. I also have a Nikon fit "plastic fantastic" Holga 60mm f8 lens which I occasionally use for lomography style digital photography.

As a digital back up for the D5100 I have a Fujifilm XF1 compact, and as a back up for the back up I fall back on the camera on my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone.

Film gear:

Currently I have a collection of five 35 mm film cameras - a Canon EOS 1000F with 35-80mm zoom lens; two Olympus Trip 35s; a Nikkormat FT2 with 43-86 zoom and 28mm wide angle lenses; and most recently a Zenit ET with Helios 58mm f20 lens.
